Officers with the Putnam Sheriff’s Department say they initiated a traffic stop after observing a driver commit a violation in the town of Carmel.
Further investigation revealed that the driver, identified as Michael Scauzillo, 51, of Mahopac, had a suspended driver’s license and was in possession of a quantity of heroin, the Sheriff says.
Scauzillo was placed under arrest and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors.
Scauzillo was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Carmel Justice Court.
